Standing at the entrance to Brignais, the Old Bridge once carried the Royal Road linking Lyon to Saint-Étienne. Already in existence during the Middle Ages, the bridge consists of two stone arches approximately 4 m high and features a characteristic humpback profile.
The roadway is paved with rounded cobblestones known as têtes de chat (cat heads), while the parapet walls are topped with granite slabs. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1934, the bridge bears witness to centuries of travel and commerce.
In 1399, due to deterioration caused by time and neglect, the Bailli of Mâcon and Seneschal of Lyon imposed a special tax on the inhabitants of Brignais and neighboring Vourles to finance repairs.
